Each apartment in the complex has its own garaged space in the carpark. However, the high buses which transport people in wheelchairs do not fit in the carpark. So there are also designated wheelchair only carparks immediately out the front of the hotel, near the ramped entrance.

Emergency Facilities
Fire safety: There are two designated fire safety platforms behind fire doors on the 5th floor for use in the event of a fire. Each of these apartments is also provided with a transfer chair, which is a soft sling type chair designed to allow two able-bodied people to carry someone with the transfer chair between them in the event of an emergency.

Windward Passage has a very efficient fire safety system. It pinpoints exactly which alarm has been triggered and is linked directly to the nearby fire brigade, as well as to the lobby area so response time is extremely fast.
Accessibilty notes
The lift goes from underground car-park to all floors but operates with keyed security system. So you can only use it to go to the carpark, lobby and your floor. Luggage trolleys are available from the car-park area. The main door to the apartment is inward opening with a push down, lever handle. Lift is close to door. A door chock is provided to hold the door back if needed. Other doors are standard doors. The main living areas are spacious, allowing for two or three people in wheelchairs to not feel too crowded. The kitchen could cope with one person in a wheelchair moving around without too much difficulty.

There are 3 Bathrooms:

Main bathroom has a wheel-in style shower with curtain, grab rails and removable shower head. Shower equipment provided. (See Equipment). There is a bath with grab rails. There is also a toilet with grab rails and taps are the lever/swivel type. The two sinks are designed for wheeling close with box of tissues fixed at sink level. A hairdryer is supplied in the cupboard. On the wall is a battery charger for the hoist.

Second smaller bathroom has a toilet and sink, but no grab rails.

Ensuite bathroom off the master bedroom has spa bath, toilet with door, walk-in rob with door, double sinks and shower with removable shower head. However the shower door is the narrow, sliding door type and there is a lip on the shower entrance. There are no grab rails in the ensuite.

The stunning water views look across the water of Pumicestone Passage to the northern-most tip of Bribie Island, which is directly across from the apartments. The view encompasses from the lights of Caloundra (at night), on the left to a long way down the Pumicestone Passage on the right. One can see the surf breaking where the Passage meets the sea and watch the colourful kite and windsurfers racing the waves. Out beyond Bribie Island, the upper parts of container ships can be seen as they make their way up and down the coast and an interesting variety of large and small water craft constantly travel the Pumicestone Passage, so close it seems one could reach out and touch them, which makes for a very interesting and entertaining view. The water view can be seen from the main living areas, all three balconies and the master bedroom.

Outdoor area notes
There are three balconies. The small one off the master bedroom has a water view, but is not wheelchair accessible as it is around the far side of the bed and there is a lip between the room and the balcony. The two main balconies are both large with amazing views. One is off the dining room. Reached by sliding doors, there is a lip down to the balcony but could be accessed with assistance if in a manual chair. The other balcony is fully accessible with small ramps in place at the sliding balcony doors. Main balcony: rectangular table and wooden chairs with arms for 6.

Accessible Eating
It is possible to continue all the way by sealed paths in the parklands mentioned above, beside the water until you eventually reach the Caloundra Power Boat Club. If any of you are walking, it is a very long way, so recommend driving as a better option. (They have an open-air carpark). Similar to many of the RSL clubs found in N.S.W, this club is an absolute hive of activity and right on the water to boot! It has gaming machines, a coffee shop and restaurant with gorgeous water views, reasonably priced food and there is often live entertainment and other activities such as bingo. There is a wheelchair accessible toilet. Tourists don't have to pay the inexpensive membership fee, just provide evidence of where they are from ie driver's license, to prove that they are not local. They also provide a regular pickup/drop off bus for local tourist accommodation, but this bus is not designed to cope with wheelchairs. For more information on this club, go to the category 'Things to Do' under Holidays.
Out and About
Option 1:

Head out of the front door of Windward Passage and turn right along the footpath. Turn right again and follow the path as it runs beside the water. After a short stroll, the path ramps up to two decked lookouts, both wheelchair accessible. Have a picnic here or make your way further on until you reach the cafes and restaurants overlooking Bulcock Beach. The paths follow the coast with lookouts, seats, tables, cold water showers and accessible toilets spaced at regular intervals along the Caloundra city coastline.

Option 2:
Head out the front door of Windward Passage and turn left. A short distance of footpath soon takes you to a long strip of parkland all along the Esplanade, bordering the water. A sealed wide path meanders pleasantly through this charming park, with wheelchair accessible toilets, children's playgrounds and gas barbecues placed at convenient intervals. Take your own supplies as the nearest coffee shops seem to be all the way up the other end, a couple of blocks in from the water at the Golden Beach shops. About half way up this park is a recently renovated and accessible jetty which is great for getting closer to the water for viewing or a bit of fishing and feeling safe. It is quite wide and has metal railings along the sides. For the fishers amongst you, there is also a stainless steel table and tap for sorting out the fish you catch and a bin for discarded fishing line!

Option 3:
If you stick to the water's edge and continue past the end of the park just mentioned above (bear in mind it is a very long park), a little bit further up the sealed pathway takes you on to a boardwalk through the mangroves for a short way with two viewing platforms out to the Pumicestone Passage, before coming up again near the Caloundra Power Boat Club (see below). You can easily check this out if you started at the Club as this whole area is very accessible.

Liberty swing:

A liberty swing for children in wheelchairs is set in the first playground you come to in the park mentioned above. Windward Passage staff can provide you with a key to this swing.
These 2 beautiful, no smoking apartments (one a mirror image of the other), specifically designed to cater for people with disabilities. They would also suit families or groups, where some people in the group are able-bodied. Both are on the 5th floor with stunning uninterrupted water views. Each apartment is fully self-contained, with four bedrooms, spacious living areas and a full kitchen. One of the bathrooms is designed with people with disabilities in mind (see details below) and several pieces of equipment are available.
Other information
The dining table has 8 padded chairs (no arms).
The heated pool has a sloping ramp for ease of entry and a pool chair and the covered gas barbecue is not far away.
